Welcome to Matt Gibbons who has joined us as Lead Senior Technician at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre!

Mr Gibbons will lead the PCEC team of audiovisual technicians and provide support to the Technical Director, Operations Manager and Technical Event Managers to ensure the delivery of seamless and successful events.

Mr Gibbons is a qualified rigger and a highly sought after Lighting Director with over 16 years of experience in this industry. Having commenced his career straight from high school as an AV Technician, he is highly skilled in all aspects of the events industry with an excellent knowledge of audiovisual techniques.

One of his more memorable events includes the recent Telethon Weekend (pictured) where he worked alongside Channel 7 during the live 24 hour broadcast, as Lighting Director in the PCEC’s Riverside Theatre.

When he’s not at work, Matt enjoys music, spending time with his young family, playing with new technology, and DJing.

Welcome to the AVPartners team, Matt!

Tilman (Tilly) was recently appointed head rigger for AVPartners at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC).

Tilly’s sense of adventure has meant he’s had an extremely diverse and exciting career all over the world. Tilly says “experience through misadventure seems to be my tagline!”

Tilly has worked as a gold prospector, concierge, cook, room-service attendant, tent manager, warehouse manager, time-share sales associate, caterer, glassy, bartender, short filmmaker, wicker furniture salesman, house sitter, babysitter and rouse-about – and now rigger!

Most recently, Tilly worked in Exhibitions with Perth Expohire, prior to moving to AVPartners.

He is excited to take up the role after working as a casual Rigger with AVPartners at PCEC since 2014. Tilly says “PCEC is a central hub for some of the most significant events in Perth. The diversity of the people and characters you get to meet and work with is more than reason enough to keep coming back.”

Tilly loves the events industry and sees it as an interesting way to peek into the world around you – in all its diversity – from one place.

One of his favourite events to work on was CANCEC, an annual Canadian defence and business exhibition. Tilly says “I remember having to push past some high ranking military brass waiting in security checks because I had a chair to deliver. It was quite an extraordinary experience.”

“It was a lot of fun and sent me down the path I’m still on now.”

Tilly was born in Guatemala on Lago De Attitlan, Panajachel, and moved with his mother to Australia. He has three brothers dotted around the world of which he is the eldest but in his words “certainly not the wisest.” With family scattered evenly around the world, Tilly is proud to represent the clan down-under.

In his free time, Tilly enjoys cooking, filmmaking and watching a good (or cheesy) film. Some favourites include Black Dynamite, Aliens, City of God and Children of Men.

A big welcome to Tilly to the AVPartners team!

We are excited to introduce Matt Taylor; the newest Partner in the AVPartners family. Matt was appointed as partner at Crown Perth following AVPartners being awarded the audio visual contract at the complex in June 2014.

Matt brings to this exciting challenge a wealth of experience, knowledge and dedication. His most recent position as Business Development Manager for AVPartners Perth has provided the ideal background to move forward in this new role.

Growing up in Kingsley (Perth’s northern suburbs), Matt followed his dream and upon finishing school he completed an Advanced Certificate of Broadcast Operations and Certificate IV of Music Industry Skills. He acquired valuable camera, lighting, audio and vision operation techniques during this time.

Matt’s first role in the audio visual industry was that of Technician back in 1999 when 35mm slide projectors, VHS tapes and 3 gun projectors were still used! He quickly moved up the ranks to Senior Technician and then onto Venue Services Manager at the Parmelia Hilton and Burswood Entertainment Complex before commencing with AVPartners in 2008.

Matt loves working at AVPartners and is very passionate about the events industry. Just having the opportunity to work with dynamic and creative people each and every day gives him a buzz and nothing makes him happier than exceeding the client’s expectations.

It was extremely difficult for Matt to pinpoint his most memorable show but his greatest career achievement to date was the successful management of the Medical Meetings – Pfizer Pharmaceutical National Sales Conference. This event was held in 2010 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and Sheraton Perth Hotel. The pre-production phase alone consisted of several interstate meetings held over four months with the event attracting over 600 delegates. The execution of the event had him overseeing a team of two full time AVPartners Event Managers, Technical Director and 30 staff. The event was a resounding success and the beginning of a new relationship with Medical Meetings, establishing AVPartners as a market leader to the Australian audio visual industry.

Matt’s greatest personal achievement is his family. He loves spending quality time with his wife and 3 young children and their many friends. He still loves his music too and when he’s not at a concert or adding to his extensive CD collection he is either playing his acoustic guitar or electronic drums!

Ritchie is one lucky guy! He resides on beautiful Hamilton Island, loves his job and has just become a Dad for the very first time.  Life doesn’t get much better.

Ritchie was born in Liverpool, England but relocated to Australia with his family when he was just 10 years old. He attended Sunshine Beach State High School in Queensland during his teenage years and always dreamed he would one day be a professional golfer. He played golf at every opportunity, sometimes playing 36 holes a day!

Following school, Ritchie landed his first role in the audio visual industry. After gaining some experience he joined AVPartners in 2010 where he worked on Hamilton Island as a Lighting Technician for just over a year.  He transferred to Sydney (Four Seasons) for a short stint but returned to Hamilton Island as the Sales Manager just under a year later. He loves his current role and feels incredibly lucky to be working with such a supportive team. In fact, he considers the team as his extended family.

Ritchie thoroughly enjoys the events industry as there is always something new and exciting happening.  It can be something as simple as new equipment, experimenting with new locations or proposing new ideas!

Ritchie’s most memorable show was the ‘Mitek’ event held on Hamilton Island. It was one of the first big events he executed in the Sales Manager role and it looked incredible! The show was flawless and the client was over the moon. In fact they were so happy they sent Ritchie their internal newsletter later that month which featured an article on their very successful Hamilton Island show!

In his spare time Ritchie enjoys playing golf (on Dent Island no less!) and doesn’t mind the odd spearfishing trip either.

Ritchie and his partner Beckie (who originally hales from Canada) now call Hamilton Island their home and were recently blessed with the arrival of their first son, Ollie. Life couldn’t be much sweeter!
